Ngari Khangtsen

Khangtsen is the Tibetan word for HOSTEL.
Living in hostels is a practical way for monks from a particular area to reside together, whilst attending the monastic unversity.

Residents Of Ngari

We have over 150 resident monks in our Khangtsen. They are mostly newly arrived Tibetans from western Tibet and ethnic Tibetans from the Himalayan region or the Thö Ngari region - Ladakh, Lahaul & Spiti, and Nepal.

60 % of our monks fall in the 15-30 age group and many come from underprivilaged areas/families. They are therefore in need of considerable financial support.

Abbots, Lamas and Tulkus

To date our Khangtsen has produced three Abbots of Sera Jey Dratsang. There have been six renowned recognized reincarnated Lamas and Tulkus from our Khangtsen.
